To Heaven and Back by Mary C. Neal, MD is the authors personal account of her death after a kayaking accident in Chile in 1999. Dr. Neal was an experienced kayaker when she drowned in a freak accident. She was pinned in her kayak at the bottom of a waterfall. This story gives her account of the details of the actual accident along with the moments after when she feels that she was met by angles and escorted to the gates of heaven, only to be told that it was not her "time" and that God needed her back with her family.
Dr. Neal's life story is very amazing and I have no doubt that she feels each and every story related is 100% accurate. I also believe that God performs miracles in the lives of believers. My hesitation with books of this nature are that some new believers or non-believers could get the impression that because they have never had events like this happen in their life, that God does not care or is not present. That being said: I enjoyed hearing the many times that Dr. Neal feels she was visited by angels, and feels she had God's personal protection.
I would recommend this book to believers that are strong and secure in their faith. I would hesitate, for the reason stated above, to recommend this to someone who is a new believer or someone with questions or hesitations about their salvation.
