PTO

Several years ago when I was very involved with the PTO at CAL's school, the nurse put in a request for an AED machine.

Most of the parents thought this was a "must have" item but one single parent was concerned that an untrained person might use the machine and she didn't want her child in that type of danger. I thought this was the silliest argument that I had ever heard. What is the alternative. If the machine is not needed it won't work. Almost anyone can use these machines and training is simply following directions.

Because of this single parent the school never purchased the machine. Personally I think it should have been put to a vote. Maybe that parent could have just written a note. Something like: I don't care if my child is dying or not - please do not operate the machine unless you have been fully trained.

We have one at our school, with both adult and kid versions in it. And it totally talks you through the procedures. Maybe that parent should have gone through the training.
