in our house on Saturday. CAL was doing his report for "extra credit". This was the report I mentioned in Above and Beyond.
It was the last few minutes of the game. CAL was on the floor typing in a play-by-play of the game. He was on page three of notes. During commercial he had to "step away" for a few minutes. After several minutes, my hubby yelled to him that the game was back on and he better hurry up. CAL quickly responded "I need more time" (he had only sung three songs and that was not nearly enough for a single visit to the "room") He asked if "MOM" could please take notes for him. Of course I was busy and yelled back "just hurry up". Dad trying to be the good guy that he is, reached down and picked up the computer. Out came the power cord. We both just stood there staring at each other. See this computer does not have a battery.
I asked CAL if he had saved his work. "NO". Two and a half hours of taking notes down the drain. I could not believe it. I was angry for hubby because he did not take more care in picking up the computer. I was angry with CAL because he didn't save his work, and he was now on song five. Oddly enough I was not angry with myself. Go figure.
The husband broke the new to CAL who immediately had a mental breakdown. I don't blame him. The only thing I could think about was his poor teacher who watched a game for three hours for nothing. He was so angry with his father.
After CAL calmed down he said that sometimes it will "recover" the document. I looked. NOPE. That caused a bigger breakdown. He went to his room and had a royal temper tantrum. Several minutes later while I was still playing with the computer I notice that several word documents were open on the bottom. His report was one of them...... YEA.....
Bottom line: I have to buy CAL a battery for his computer. Once I have enough money in my pay pal account I will be heading over to AllBatts.com. They have the battery for his computer. They even have a cell phone battery and WB knows that he is going to need one of those real soon. I love it when you can get all your needs from one store and do not have to place multiple orders.

ACK!
I don't need to read heart-stopping/heart-breaking stories like that so early in the morning.
I am SO glad you had a happy ending.
Stuff like that happening to my kids keeps me up at night.
oh my. i would have had a heart attack.
I am a frequent saver, having learned from losing valuable work.
Crisis averted, thank goodness!
Having had that happen to me a time or two, I learned quickly to save alot and turn on the auto save in word too.
