Why are tax payer dollars being spent to help people upgrade their TV sets. I have not done the research but this sounds like a Democrats program if I ever heard of one. I wonder how much this little pork program will cost us. I know that I have been seeing TV commercials regularly for this program. TV is expensive. How much money are we spending to "advertise" the fact that our government is helping people with rabbit ear get better TV. Gosh, for crying out loud. If they are still with rabbit ears and/or antenna then frankly, they really don't care much about TV to begin with. When did it become our "right" to have free TV. Show me in the Constitution where it states that we are to have free TV.
Coupons Offered To Help Transition To Digital TVWASHINGTON (AP) ―
If you're a low-tech TV owner who has a set of rabbit ears on top of your set or an old-style antenna sitting on your roof, listen up.
Starting with the New Year, you will be able to obtain $40 coupons from the government to help you make the transition into digital broadcasting. The coupons will help pay for special converter boxes that will convert digital signals to old-style analog signals. Beginning February 18th, 2009, anyone who does not own a digital set and still gets their programming using over-the-air antennas will no longer receive a picture. That's the day the television industry completes its transition to digital broadcasting.
The converter boxes are expected to cost between $50 and $70. Viewers who have satellite or cable service won't need a box.

We haven't had cable for six years now. We just couldn't justify the cost. At first, I thought I would die. Now, I'm fine with just broadcast. I'll have to get a converter box because otherwise we wouldn't get anything.
Not that it'll be a big deal. I refuse to watch broadcast news, even local.
i thought the same thing when i saw one of these commercials. rediculous! it's only $50! if you really want to watch tv, buy the freakin box. why does the government feel the need to spend my tax dollars to offer tv to the masses??? and really, you can buy a big, bulky digital-ready tv for under $100 anyhow. stupid, stupid, stupid! /tangent
